Knitting?!
I actually started a project that isn't cross stitch! I found this awesome shawl on Ravelry:
See? Pretty!
I pulled some yarns from my stash and well, lets just say that the first go around did not work, at all, not even a little bit.
So I tried again:
Ah! Much better! And even did a little swatch this time to make sure the colors were going to play nice together.
Aubrey looked at the swatch and said "Mom, you made my (littlest pet shop) kitten a blanket! That's so nice of you!" and grabbed it and ran off.
I am very excited to be making this shawl, it has been WAY too long since I have had a desire to knit anything! And, yes, knitting a shawl when it is 95+ degrees and humid outside is probably a little crazy. But at least I will be prepared for fall?

June Color Challenge: Finished (Finally!)
I fell just a bit a lot behind on the Crafty Sheep June Color Challenge, but I finally got it finished!

I love how it turned out! I used DMC floss in colors: 3348, 987, 744, 977 and 3777. The pattern is from Sewing Seed. I LOVE her patterns, so show her some love and go buy something! (Well, if you cross stitch anyway, the rest of you are out of luck. lol)
The colors also conveniently matched the fabric that I want to make some cloth napkins and other kitchen miscellany out of. Yay!
Not a perfect color match, but good enough for me. Now onto the July Challenge!

Happy 4th of July!
We went and saw some fireworks last night, but I kind of failed at taking pictures of them this year. I forgot both my tripod and to charge my camera battery. Oops.

Today we went to a free 4th of July fair thing I found. It had a petting zoo, and horse rides and all kinds of things all for free!

Then I got silly and made dinner themed as well. :P

Black bean burgers and oven fries.
And cherry pie for dessert.

4th of July Shirt
I wasn't feeling very crafty, so I just grabbed a couple cute skirts and shirts for the girls to wear for the 4th.
When I grabbed the 24 month size shirt for Sierra I thought it looked a little big, but shrugged and just put in the cart anyway, since I was in a bit of a hurry. Apparently I should have listened to my instincts, because it was absolutely HUGE on her!
Here is is with a 2T shirt on top of it. What a difference! In fact it was practically the same size as Aubrey's, a girls 4-5.
So, I got out my trusty scissors and sewing machine and fixed it a bit. I just did a quick little peasant type thing with it. It is a little big/loose in the neck. I should have checked for that before I sewed up the opening for the elastic, oops. But overall it is much much better!
Trying to take pictures of Aubrey in her matching outfit, ended up with pictures like this:
Gotta love kids!
Now we are all ready to go see some fireworks! Which are tonight oddly enough. I'm not sure why Richmond is doing them on the 3rd. I hope everyone has a happy and safe 4th!

Pink Ruffly Swimsuit
Every year I am a bit saddened by the 2 piece swimsuit choices for girls. And a one piece would just be way too hard to get on and off Aubrey for potty breaks. So I decided to make her one this year.
Inspired by this post on MADE, I ordered some pink ruffle fabric and some pink and white spandex.
I (sort of) used this pattern for the top and used this underwear pattern (that I LOVE) for the bottoms.
It turned out so super cute! I know I have posted pictures of it from the beach, but I really wanted to do a post for it too. I know, I'm silly.
It is SO pink, and so so girly, but she loves it so much!
I also bought some yellow ruffle fabric to make a matching one for Sierra, I just haven't gotten to it yet. I should really try to finish that up before we go to the beach again.

Beach Again
Ok, now this is just getting ridiculous. More repeat posts. I REALLY need to get some crafting done I guess. I have just been lacking in motivation for any of it. So, until I can get some back, here are a couple fun beach pictures. I didn't take very many this time.
The girls just love the beach so much. We went back to Gloucester Point this time. But next time we are going to try somewhere else out. (Yes, Mom, I remembered to sunblock myself this time too.)
I also actually managed to pull off something cute for my hair. Thanks Pinterest!
Don't mind the crappy picture. Apparently, my mirror was dirty. Also, it is really hard to take a picture of the back of your own head.
